Honora Bacon is a studio potter and yoga teacher in Santa Cruz, California. Clay has consumed her attention for the past decade. New Mexico is where she was first introduced to clay as a student at the University of New Mexico. After she took every clay class UNM offered, from Pueblo Pottery to Arita Porcelain, she continued down the clay rabbit hole studying with potters she found inspiring at Penland School of Crafts, Santa Fe Clay, and Mendocino Art Center.
Honora works with a rich red earthenware clay body to which she applies a silky smooth eggshell finish. Recently, Honora has been wood firing her pots, an ever changing and dynamic process that takes up to 26 hours of constant care to fire. Wood fire has reaffirmed her love for clay who's qualities fulfill her desire for a good problem to solve and to be warmed to the core by a blazing fire.
